Pick it up, Pack it out!

Nevada is known for its breathtaking landscapes and diversity of wildlife. People frequently visit our beautiful state to take in the scenery and to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. If you’re anything like us, you enjoy a quiet hike in the wilderness to unwind from your busy week! However, there’s a growing problem that threatens our pristine trails, wilderness, and wildlife.

With more and more people venturing out into our deserts and mountains, there has been an increase in the amount of trash left in the wake of careless visitors. From coffee cups, gum wrappers, and toilet paper, to plastic doggie bags full of our hiking buddy’s waste, all of the trash left behind by human activity degrades the quality of the ecosystem and is hazardous to our wild neighbors. Birds and other wildlife will often mistake our waste for food and will attempt to eat it. Many animals have died as a result.

Thankfully, the solution is simple! Whatever you pack in, pack out. That includes our little doggie bags! But what if you find garbage left behind by others? Our favorite solution is to carry along a washable trash bag for items that we find along the trail. Removing every little bit helps! With minimal effort, we can protect both the environment and our wild neighbors!

Remember:  Pick it up, Pack it out!
